Treatment for Scars
MW Skin Concept offers a variety of treatment options for scar reduction. Please see the different types of scars below.
Raised Scars
Hypertrophic or Keloid scars are raised or very proud scars formed either from surgical procedures or acne. Raised scars rarely arise spontaneously and can sometimes be itchy or tender. At MW Skin Concept, steroid injection is the gold standard for reduction of hypertrophic or keloid scars. MW Skin Concept recommend steroid injection treatment generally repeated every month until the scar is flat. Symptoms of itch and pain often diminish or disappear with treatment.
Depressed Scars
Atrophic scars or depressed scars can be caused by a variety of injury to the skin such as acne and chickenpox. MW Skin Concept offers various surgical methods such as sub-cision and punch excision. Other options include TCA Cross and Dermapen® micro-needling.
Scar treatment with DERMAPEN®
Dermapen® is an innovative micro-needling device for various types of scars. Multiple micro-wounds are made using the Dermapen®, which stimulates the production of collagen. Treatment is well tolerated and requires minimal downtime. Several sessions are required.
TCA Cross
TCA cross is essentially a deep chemical peel applied only into depressed scars. Redness and crusting is expected after the treatment. Few treatments are required depending on the depth of the scars.
